History Of The Apostolic Nunciature In Belarus

The Holy See and the Republic of Belarus established diplomatic relations on November 11, 1992.

The Apostolic Nunciature was canonically erected by the Bull of His Holiness Pope John Paul II Quantam tandem.

  The first Apostolic Nuncio in Belarus was His Excellency Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, Colombian. He presented his Letters of Credence on April 17, 1993.
He was succeeded by His Excellency Archbishop Agostino Marchetto, Italian, who was accredited on May 18, 1994.  
  The third Apostolic Nuncio in Belarus was His Excellency Archbishop Dominik Hrušovský, Slovak. His mission started on April 15, 1996.
Since November 22, 2001 His Excellency Archbishop Ivan Jurkovič has been nominated to be Apostolic Nuncio in Belarus.  
  On the 15th of September 2004 the Holy Father appointed as apostolic nuncio in Belarus Monsignor Martin Vidović, the official of the State Secretariat, at the same time he raised him to the titular post of Nona as archbishop.
